SFTP enables users to programmatically access the data room via the Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP). Using SFTP, developers can configure their applications to automatically connect to and download or upload files into a DealVDR. It also is a more reliable method for bulk uploading and downloading, as browsers often have limitations on how much information can be pushed through the browser.

Who can access SFTP?

SFTP is available to any user of a data room. SFTP read/write (view/download) access is governed by the same permissions assigned to that user, i.e., they can only see (and manipulate) files and folders they have been granted access to. Also note that SFTP will not work if 2FA is enabled.

Supported SFTP clients

DealVDR recommends the following SFTP client:

Connecting to a DealVDR via SFTP

Below are the steps to access your data room through SFTP using FileZilla. Other SFTP clients should follow a similar process.

Your SFTP credentials are located in the settings panel of your data room. If you do not have access to the settings panel, please connect with your data room administrator for these details. SFTP details include:

  1. Host
  2. Port Number
  3. User Name

Open FileZilla and launch the Site Manager under the File menu.

  1. Create a new site and select SFTP as the Protocol.
  2. Input the Host, Port Number and User details located in your DealVDR settings panel along with your Finsight account password.
  3. Select the “Connect” button to connect to your data room through SFTP.

Using SFTP

Once you successfully connected to DealVDR via SFTP, your data room folder structure will display on the right-hand side of FileZilla in the Remote pane. Your local hard drive folder structure will display on the left-side of FileZilla in the Local pane. Find your intended upload / download location in both panels and drag and drop your folders and files accordingly.
